1. Outline

World Unknown Soldiers Tomb was built to place the ashes of the dead people, around 200 and more, whose bereaved family were not identified and no one had received the ashes. They were once temporally put in a room of Saitama prefectural office. And Buddhist memorial tablet and dead people’s list of world unknown soldiers were also placed in the tomb, where included were the Burmese war dead, Philippine war dead, war dead in Saitama pref., in Tokyo metropolis, in Kanagawa pref., in Ishikawa pref., and in OGOSE town and other war dead of races and nations.

First proposal to build this tomb was suggested by Mr. Hidekuni HASEBE who was a doctor in OGOSE town and vice chairman of Saitama Prefectural Assembly. He hoped to build the tomb in order to mourn for the numerous war dead and to pray for the world peace. He got to work on Japanese Government and Saitama prefecture and got many charitable supporters. And six years later from his proposal, this tomb was completed in August of 1955. This tomb is not belonged to specific religion. And the understanding of the word "unknown" is not unidentifying the each name, but mourning as the sense of equal ,nevertheless they had various dignity, orders and degrees in this world.
